WESTLAND DRIVE
Marienne Pachonick Architects introduced me to the clients early in the process of renovating and extending this beautiful 1930s property, and the architecture of the house is reflected in this relaxed family garden. Making the most of the splendid oak and open views were also key to the design.
RAVENSBOURNE AVENUE
Designed with Marienne Pachonick Architects, this steep site was terraced to create new views. Limestone steps lead up to a sinuous path between shady seating and lush planting, and to the mature trees beyond.
Fawnbrake Avenue
It was a pleasure to work with Mimodo Architects and our lovely clients on this project, which included a neat front garden, generous wrap-around Jura limestone terrace and lush planting throughout: the two rounded-off lawns are surrounded by deep beds with trees, shrubs, grasses and perennial planting offering year-round interest.
Chatsworth Way
A curved lawn, mixed borders and kitchen garden provide a setting for this renovated Victorian villa.
QUEEN’S ROAD
A family garden with terrace, formal and informal areas.
Herne Hill
Designed around existing mature trees, this large family garden includes wide borders, a secluded, plant-lapped pergola and a hardwood dining deck…
Gateley Road
An urban oasis with a generous dining and seating areas, a fabulous side-return fernery, and a wide paved path meandering through the lush planting to the garden office.
St Margarets
An elegant courtyard garden with detailed planting, and distinct zones for work (including a bespoke garden office), dining and lounging.
Underhill Road
A large family garden zoned for relaxation, work and entertainment, and planted with a view to wildlife.
Sydenham Park Road
Having worked with Marienne Pachonick Architects on their house, our clients were also keen to make the most of their large family garden. A garden room, outdoor kitchen, several terraces and lush planting fit the bill.
Sydenham front garden
This pretty front garden packs a lot into a small space: a wildflower meadow, ample storage and a lively border of ferns, grasses and perennials. A path of silver granite setts curves through the space.
Clapham front garden
This simple Mediterranean revamp included drought-tolerant planting in bespoke planters, and limestone chippings to create a permeable surface much enjoyed by the veteran olive trees.
Rymer Street
Mimodo Architects created this courtyard as an extension of our client’s kitchen, and invited us to consult on planting. Now that the established climbers are controlled, the planting thrives in this atmospheric space.
Wakehurst Road
We worked with the clients and a number of specialist contractors on the front and back gardens of the Clapham property, including bespoke planters, a roof-top meadow, lightwell planters and a living wall.
RIVERVIEW GARDENS
This small garden already had a garden office, decking, paving and some mature palms. The addition of weathering steel raised beds, a pebble mosaic and new planting with a tropical feel elevate this space to the level of the clients’ beautiful remodelling of their home.
HARBERSON ROAD
Tough, naturalistic planting to soften this timber-clad corten Bikebox in Balham.
Park Hall Road
A new parterre front garden for this mid-nineteenth-century villa in Dulwich, shown here in its first season after planting.
Shearman Road
A light-touch renovation for the garden of this Blackheath townhouse, restoring existing hard landscaping and adding new fencing and deck, a pergola, a small gravel garden and a living roof retro-fitted to the existing shed. New wildlife-friendly planting complements the existing robinia and bay.
Mayfield Road
It was a pleasure to collaborate with Marienne Pachonick Architects on this project. Our clients loved the mature garden of the home they were renovating and extending, and the brief was to add a large terrace for entertaining, refresh the planting and integrate a new studio into the space with a generous path and additional borders.
Eversley Road front
Having designed the back garden a few years before, it was a pleasure to be invited back to design a new front garden for this family home in Crystal Palace.
Telford Park
A wide path of sawn stone leads to the front door and frames the limestone gravel drive, while cedar slatted fencing echoes the cladding of the bespoke bike box. Planting is key: Arbutus ‘Compacta’ is complemented by evergreen jasmine, grasses and herbaceous perennials, while the sedum roof soaks up the sunshine.
Kirkstall Gardens
With the lower terrace already in situ, this garden was reimagined for entertainment and relaxation. A streamlined metal pergola is the focal point, drawing the eye past the balau deck flanked with new corten planters towards a secluded seating area. New planting combines with edited existing plants to create an urban oasis.
Broadwater Road
This gem of a garden includes a dining area, planters with edibles and ornamentals, a covered reading arbour and a spacious deck – complete with bioethanol firebowl – leading off the garden building. Plank paving echoes the timber of the deck. The tall hedge and apple tree, both havens for wildlife, add to the privacy of this calm space.
Madeira Road
This atmospheric family garden takes its lead from the architecture of the Victorian house and a framework of existing mature planting – but at the same time it is perfectly adapted to an active urban family, with spacious play and entertaining areas and tough, attractive planting.
Albert Street
Inside Out Architects invited me to consult on the garden design for this Camden renovation/extension project, and to design and implement the planting for the front, basement and back gardens. Grasses, evergreens and a restrained colour palette add softness and unity to this smart city space.

This family garden redesign incorporates a sunny stone terrace with planters, a garden studio with its own seating area, a spacious lawn, pollinator-friendly planting, a stumpery, and a green roof on the storage shed.

A new design for this urban space featuring slate, corten and a high proportion of evergreen planting for year-round interest.
Farquhar Road
A light-touch re-imagining of this pretty Dulwich garden: the existing paving was reconfigured and relaid, boundaries repaired and refinished, a new semi-circular lawn laid, and planting areas enlarged, redesigned and replanted…
Uffington Road
A wide curvilinear path unites several seating areas and the cedar-clad garden buildings beyond the corkscrew willow. A restricted materials palette emphasising anthractite and corten is a perfect foil to the planting palette of purples, pinks and copper.

ALBERT ST
Privacy and greenery were required for this smart Camden front garden: our bespoke timber planters and drought-tolerant planting met the brief.
Pepys Road

New stone steps and paving, London stock brickwork and bespoke railings deliver a clean-lined space in keeping with this period property. Generous planting, including a raingarden, keeps rainfall within the garden.
